Taylor Simounet wanted to believe in Christ, but he just couldn't. He shared his hesitations with trusted friends at Doe River Gorge, and received lots of encouragement and support. But ultimately, this was a decision that Taylor had to make for himself. What caused him to choose Jesus over unbelief?
TAYLOR'S STORY
I came to Doe River Gorge as a camper three times, and then did the SALT and LEAD programs. At those times I was not a Christian and didn't have any desire to know God until a few counselors became great role models in my life. But, I still didn't think I could believe something so ridiculous.
The next year I spent a whole summer in the Spec Ops program, and I knew I was doing good things but didn't really care because I was still there for somewhat selfish reasons. No, I didn't believe in Christ that summer either, but the people I met gave me something to strive for.
I started attending church more regularly and reading the Bible without someone telling me to. I would pray every night for God to open my eyes to Him and let me feel His presence. He did.
I felt an overwhelming comfort when I finally found the courage to pray for salvation. Now I have no doubt in my mind that Christ came, died to save me from my sins, and resurrected.
This past summer I served as a counselor at Doe River Gorge, and it was the best summer of my life. I have the Lord and all the great people He placed at Doe River Gorge to thank for that.
Taylor was baptized in the Doe River in 2011 by Josh Hubbard.
Like Taylor, many teenagers are struggling to believe in the truth of Jesus Christ. Our work to reach these young people is needed now more than ever. That is why we are asking you to partner with us. Would you consider a financial gift to help us continue our ministry to kids, teens, and college students?
Your gift will sustain this ministry and propel us into another year of reaching people with the life-changing message of hope, peace, and forgiveness in Jesus Christ. Thank you for your support!
