NEW! Culinary Arts at the Gorge
5 or 10 weeks | Rising 11th - adult
Culinary Arts is an exciting new program for those who want to learn the skills and techniques to safely create and prepare delicious healthy meals for the home and food service industry.
Throughout the Bible God often brought people together around great food. Just before Christ went to the cross, He gathered his disciples for the Last Supper. After His resurrection, Jesus appeared to his disciples by inviting them to have breakfast on the shore. One of the first things that will happen after Christ’s return is the Marriage Supper of the Lamb. God knows that good fellowship and great food go together!
The Culinary Arts program at Doe River Gorge will equip you with the knowledge and skills that you can use for a lifetime to bring people together around great food.
For five or ten weeks, you will be one of up to 12 students who will learn the fundamentals of Culinary Arts. Our curriculum comes directly from the French Culinary Institute, The Culinary Institute of America and ServSafe. The emphasis will be on “cooking” vs. "following recipes" and will focus on cooking by sight, smell, taste, and touch to develop the artistic creative process for the preparation and presentation of food.
Throughout this course, you will participate in "Market Basket Challenges", where your dishes will be presented, consumed, and judged to develop your skills. In addition to the culinary skills you will acquire, you will also learn the importance of serving others with excellence. Your shared sacrifice, long hours and labor will not only develop your work ethic and cooking skills, you will develop lasting friendships. Additionally, you will also experience dynamic worship, transformational teaching, and incredible high adventure activities.
